How Much Tik Tok Paid Me For 24 Million Views

The number one question: How much do you make on Tik Tok?

If you’ve been living under a rock the past year or two, you probably don’t know what Tik Tok is. The semi-new app is similar to what Vine used to be, a video app where users can post videos up to 1 minute long. The content on the app ranges from comedy, to artists creating art, even individuals helping families in need. Earlier in 2020 the app was actually in danger of being banned in the US, which in my opinion is ridiculous.

I first started making videos on Tik Tok when the catastrophic Covid-19 pandemic first hit the US. I saw it as some silly app for younger kids and teens but found it to be fun and a way to fill my time ( which I had way too much of). My first videos were 10 second, flipping around with my boyfriend, which did not get many views. Before the pandemic hit I was a full time makeup artist, working on set doing both beauty and SFX makeup. With no upcoming work for who knew how long I decided to take my skills and showcase them on my Tik Tok profile. My first SFX video was a video creating a cut using 3rd degree silicone, which wasn’t very good. I woke up the next morning with a few thousand views and 600 likes, which to a new user was awesome.

As the pandemic grew longer and longer, with no sign of light at the end of the tunnel, the only thing I knew for sure is that I spent too much time watching videos on Tik Tok. I started to get serious about posting my own content on the app in May of 2020. I would post either videos of my SFX makeup, or short tutorials on how I made a cut or a bruise. My videos slowly started to gain more views, and my account now had 10,000 followers. The views and followers gave me a sense of accountability, that it was my job to upload new content often.

It was not until the end of June that I got my first viral Tik Tok video. It was one of my most simple videos I had ever uploaded, yet it was the most popular (which seems to be the way Tik Tok works). I applied a prosthetic to my face, making my nose look bigger and used the popular sound “Nose job check.” The video ended up getting 31.5 million views, gaining my follower count to 120K.

Now let’s get to the info that you’ve all been waiting for. It was not that video I mentioned before that made me money on Tik Tok. I had posted that video before Tik Tok released their creator fund, the 1 billion dollar fund that the app came out with to pay their creators. Recently I had another video go viral, getting 24 million views, this time under the creator fund. With that video going viral, my total video profile views for the past week were 23,200,600. Here is where things get tricky, while I am under the Tik Tok creator fund, I am not allowed to discuss how much I get paid for videos, or else I am in risk of getting kicked off of the fund. But I believe I can give you a rough estimate. In the week of my profile getting nearly 24 million views, I made $800. I can not believe that something I started doing to pass time, turned into a way to make some extra cash.
